Mark Teixeira's First Yankees Home Run

Mark Teixeira hit his first home run as a member of the New York Yankees off Orioles Starter Alfredo Simon in the 4th inning on Thursday, April 09, 2009 in Baltimore.

He hit a solo shot batting left-handed, finishing the game 2-for-5, helping the Yankees win 11-2.

Baltimore Boo Birds

Mark Teixeira's first visit to Baltimore brought out the Boo Birds.

They turned on a local boy who spurned them in the off-season to sign with their Division Rival New York Yankees.

Last time I checked the $150 million offer was $30 million less than the Yankees offered.

Did Oriole fans really expect a hometown discount of $30 Million Dollars for a Scott Boras client, who was clearly the best offensive player available in free agency?

When the weather heats up and the Yankees come back to town, he'll give you reason to boo.

I'm wondering if he would have gotten the same ovation had he signed with the Red Sox?

Brian Cashman Went To Bat For Mark Teixeira

It seems that Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman was the driving force that brought the New York Yankees their Portuguese First Baseman, Swooping in at the last minute to keep him away from the Boston Red Sox.

He considered Mark Teixeira "A Perfect Fit For The Yankees".

His final plea to the Yankee Brass went something like this...

"I know you're not interested, but they're going to get this guy. He's going to fall in their lap, and he's so perfect for us."
